Proud Right-Winger

In Good Company…

Been a while since my last post…so much going on…on top of my day job, taking care of my family, and working on new songs with my friend & cowriter (BigDawg)!! It would take me forever to write every glorious detail about all the excitement and Lord knows I don’t have the time (and I’m sure you don’t want to read a book!), so I’ll try to be brief in my recap!

In August, I had the great privilege to fly out to Phoenix, AZ at the invitation of Smart Girl Politics member (and AZ Regional Director), Diane Burnett, to take part in the Smart Girl Politics Pre-Hannity Freedom Concert Tailgate Party (say that five times fast!)….Fellow “Smart Guy”, James Kole (singer/songwriter) and his wife also attended! We didn’t get to perform (permit issues) but had a great meet & greet…after which we enjoyed the Freedom Concert in box seats! It was well worth the trip and Diane and her husband spoiled me rotten!

Hanging out with some Smart Girls and their Smart husbands!

In September, I was honored to be invited to perform with my 6-year old son at the Free Republic National Convention on 9/12 (as well as their 9/11 Tribute to Heroes Candlelight Vigil in the ballroom atop the Sheraton Hotel overlooking downtown DC). I wrote the song “Hero’s Creed” specifically for that event (see my previous post). My son was a HUGE hit with the crowd as he recited the preamble to the Constitution! Earlier in the day, I was thrilled to be able to hang out with Tami Bell (the fabulous lady who organized the convention!) and Andrew Wilcow of Sirius Satellite Radio. We were blown away by the vast number of patriots..all the great signs…and we were determined to get through the massive crowds to get Andrew up to the Capitol Building where the speakers were doing their thing…After convincing mulitple security folks/DC policemen/women that we HAD to get through…and finally convinced someone to let Andrew backstage, Tami and I had to head back to the hotel to get ready for the convention dinner. We found out later that evening that Andrew never got to speak….that the organizers of the event, Freedom Works, was charging the speakers for a “prime spot” on their stage!! I checked this out and sure enough…not only did they up the fee for other organizations to be listed as co-sponsors on their official site for the March from ZERO to $2,500….they were charging speakers $10,000 to speak!!! I know it costs money to put on an event this size but that just seems a bit STEEP! Read more about that here: FREEDOM WORKS…NOT FREE. Its organizations like these that give plenty of ammo to the likes of “Stretch Pelosi” (as Mark Levin endearingly refers to her!)…to label these tea parties/rallies/marches as “ASTROTURF”!!

Andrew Wilcow and I at the 9/12 March in DC

Jim Robinson (President/CEO of Free Republic) and I at the FReeper Convention

The Convention dinner was fabulous with guest speakers, Congressional candidate, Lt Col (ret) Alan West (AWESOME speaker!), South Florida Talk Show host, Joyce Kauffman, and Andrew Wilcow, The Wilcow Majority. All the speakers were fabulous, passionate, and got the crowd motivated to get involved in the fight to preserve our constitutional rights. The organizers, led by Tami Bell, are to be commended for a first-class weekend of events I shall not soon forget!

The following week I had an absolutely fabulous time at the Smart Girl Politics’ Inaugural Smart Girls Summit with guest speakers, Michelle Malkin (fabulous speaker and such a gracious lady!), Liz Cheney (tough as nails just like her dad!), and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN…another great speaker!!). The summit was broadcast live on RFC Radio! The day was capped off by an evening fund raiser at which Michelle Malkin signed copies of her #1 Best-Seller, “Culture of Corruption”! Even got to spend some time with her and chat a bit! Major kudos to Stacy Mott and the rest of the Smart Girl leadership team for an outstanding event! I got to meet so many bright, intelligent, classy, conservative women…and took away all kinds of inspiration to do even more to help spread the word…motivate folks to get involved…so much inspiration that I ended up writing a new song for Smart Girl Politics (which currently appears on their homepage!).

Michelle Malkin and I at her book-signing fund-raiser. She’s the coolest!

I am now a member of www.asamom.ning.com, the newly-formed site for “Mommy Patriots” (born out of a recent panel appearance of 9/12 moms on the Glenn Beck show) and will be writing/performing a song for their upcoming M.O.M. (Millions of Moms) for America Rally on 14 August 2009 in Washington DC. The site literally exploded with new members and is close to 40,000 members since it was started just 7 days ago!! Incredible! A new site has been created strictly for the organization of the rally… www.mom4america.ning.com. Watch out DC…the MOMS are getting ready to STORM DC

All in all…I have had the most incredible time at these events, made some great new friends/contacts, and am fired up to do all I possibly can to ensure my kids have an America they can be proud of…ALWAYS.

I am a 40 year resident of Massachusetts. As a conservative I feel as though I live in Siberia .

You know your are doing going when they come after you, critize you, and try to intimidate you, because they are so afraid of the american people get the control of our country back.

Lisa, God Bless you for all you do for both the conservative cause and as a veteran of our armed forces. Do not listen to the trolls and liars that may come here to cause trouble. One day, they will grow up to realize the current regime in Washington does not have either the people’s or the country’s best interests at heart.

    Lisa,

How are you so concerned that Big Gov’t is your worst nightmare… when you were Employed by BIG Gov’t. And you are concerned about increasing it?? Our Military, the LARGEST in the world, combined with the Military budget, puts your statement of your wishes for a small gov’t completely at odds with your CNN comment and blog. It’s rather embarassing, and doesn’t make sense.

      Mark K,

Unlike government takeover, control and “oversight” of our mortgage lending system, education system, health care system, automobile manufacturing facilities, and any other interference in the way Americans run their lives and businesses; providing for the common defense is one the five tenets ordained in the Constitution.

What’s “… rather embarrassing and doesn’t make sense”? Is your denigration of our military, it’s role and the fine people who serve and protect so folks like yourself are free to make insulting and unfounded comments, especially to a patriot like Lisa Mei.

If you’re interested in knowing what “The LARGEST” military in the world is doing while you sit there and belittle them with your gratuitous sarcasm, do some reading!

      By Peter Dorell, USA TODAY
      http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/2010-01-17-us-steps-up-relief-effort_N.htm

About 5,000 U.S. military personnel were already assisting on the ground and from ships nearby, and four Navy ships and an additional 7,500 personnel were scheduled to arrive today, according to U.S. Southern Command.

The Navy hospital ship USS Comfort got underway this weekend; it is to arrive Wednesday. The ship, which received move orders Thursday, has 250 beds and a 550-person medical team. It was the ship’s fastest launch ever, said Steve Lucas, spokesman for Southern Command.

My apologies to you, Mario. I wasn’t clear obviously with my statement. “rather embarassing and doesn’t make sense” wasn’t a reference to the Military. It was directly to Lisa. She is rather embarassing and doesn’t make sense. Hopefully that will clear up most of your commentary about me and my alleged disrespect to the Military. There is none from me. Sorry for your confusion.

          Mark K,

Don’t patronize me with your backhanded apologies. You’re the one who’s confused. By leveling personal attacks against Lisa Mei, and then linking her to the military in a demeaning manner substantiates my initial point.

You sound like those people who say they support our troops but not the mission. In your case you expect me to believe you support the mission but not the troops. I find your “analysis” on this issue to be incredulous!

Ad hominem attacks and gratuitous sarcasm seems to be your stock in trade. In my book, anyone who would cast aspersions on a decent person like Lisa Mei, in any forum other than face to face, is being totally disingenuous at best.

In the interest of full disclosure: I’m a good friend of Lisa Mei. I know her to be neither embarrassing nor nonsensical. She loves and cares about this country and devotes much of her time and talent to that cause. If you don’t like her politics that’s one thing, but don’t demean someone you don’t even know with your petty barbs. All that says about you is that you are ignorant and intolerant. You never consider the fact that when you attack her you’re attacking me and the many people that know and love her.

Please don’t bother responding to me with any more of your snide and baseless remarks. I refuse to waste my time with people who insult my friends while hiding behind their initials.

Wow, so much to write back… dont know where to start.

First, i take back my apology to you. I actually thought that you thought i was demeaning the military, which i wasn’t. But no, you are making it seem like i am.

What kind of kindergarten logic does one have(i’m talking about you Mario, not Lisa, just to be clear), that says if i don’t agree with Person A, and that person is or was serving the military, then de facto i’m not supporting the military. (Full disclosure: I am sarcastically using latin here.)

That is what you have said/supported twice now.

            Here’s an Example:
When Adm. Mike Mullen supports repealling the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell for the military, and Senator John McCain does not support the same thing, I suppose then entire nation is demeaning or unsupportive of the Military in general when they make a comment about whichever one(depending on which side of the fence they are on). B/c the entire nation is disagreeing with one of them, and both of them are/were in the military. Of course anyone not supporting either one of them for their comments/stance on the subject would say “and he served us in the military, he should know better”, which links them back to their service.

It’s not a shame that a person disagrees with one of those gentlemen’s logic, but a shame that one must be silenced on the basis that one can’t discuss such a thing b/c its unpatriotic, or b/c its demeaning to the entire military.

That logic is wrong, and i hope you’ll understand that one day. But I’ll let it pass, b/c you obviously are friends with Lisa, and therefore it’s only natural to defend her. Thats cool… i get that. but don’t use nonsensical logic to defend her.

I wish i could write you directly to finish this convo, b/c there is so much to write, and i feel bad now for Lisa for crowding her blog — which reads “LEAVE A COMMENT”.

Now, i don’t go around bashing people on every internet site. Especially those who wish to be private.. however, Lisa is a Public figure. A songwriter, who by the way, writes about Politics and is proud of it. I don’t think she needs you to defend her – she does that in her music, and apparently on CNN. Surely she isn’t expecting to sing about politics and not have dissenters. If so, she should change her profession b/c it comes with the territory.

Well, good for you to try to defend her anyway, i’m sure she’s a very nice person. I’m sure of it. But, I have tons of good friends whose politics i’m at odds with. And get this, some of those people are… in the Military. In your logic, I guess i’ve dissed them again.

The funny thing is, you brought in the concept of supporting our troops (or me not doing so) as an attack on me i guess, to make your point. However, this conversation was never about the troops nor a mission, and not even about whether or not we should have a large or the largest military. That was not the topic in the comment or on CNN. The linkage was whether one can be for small gov’t and large gov’t expenditures, for example the military. I’m not taking the stance that we shouldn’t spend that money on military, i’m saying that one cannot support it and be a small gov’t type of person.

It’s like saying “i don’t support any taxes on anyone, well, except the richest 5%.”

Sorry to make this so long, but I dont intend to visit this again either.

Also, to Lisa or the administrator – please feel free to delete this entire Mario/Mark chain, its ok by me.

    • Mark,

I really don’t think it’s necessary to denigrate the host of the website you’re on. I’d say it’s fairly classless. It does however fit the modus operandi of someone without a legitimate retort, or grasp of the issue(s) before them.

  4. Thanks Lisa Mei,

What a great idea this site is! You’ve been really busy and it’s a perfect way to keep your fans informed. Rich and I just completed a demo plus an original song called “Sagamore Bridge Blues”, which is about a stimulus funded work project that has crippled Cape Cod (no surprise). It’s on our Team Sarah homepage as well as mymusicstream.

    God Bless,

    Mario
